Good News! OLLI-UVa courses will soon be available in the Valley.

Starting in September, 2010, more than a dozen courses will be held in downtown Staunton at the R.R. Smith Center, 20 S. New St. These will be the same exciting daytime classes with convenient free parking.  Course specifics will be in the Fall 2010 catalog, which will be on-line by the first of June, 2010.

To get you excited about the Valley Session, here are some of the proposed course titles:

Livable Communities: Opportunities for Successful Aging

Elinor Ginzler, Senior Vice President for Livable Communities, AARP

Elinor Ginzler, a national expert on independent living for seniors, will discuss the elements of a livable community and the critical relationship between those elements and the ability to age successfully.

The lecture will include a discussion on the inter-generational benefits of these elements and the importance of connectivity. Ginzler will highlight some of AARP’scurrent work on mobility and housing.

Classes at Westminster Canterbury

For those of you with classes at Westminster Canterbury, please note directions below:

From Route 250, turn into the Westminster Canterbury entrance and proceed to the guardhouse.  Turn right and drive to the back of the main building.  Park in the “Visitor Parking — Blue Lot.”  Walk to the Blue Ridge entrance.  Go through the double doors.  As you face the circular sofa, turn left and walk down the hallway to the lobby with the piano.  An OLLI sign will be posted on either the “Rotunda” and/or “Blue Ridge” rooms where OLLI courses are held.


New closed courses and schedule changes

Here are the changes for this week:

  • Another full course – A34 – Basic Estate Planning.
  • No longer full -  B31 – The Supreme Court (enrollment raised to 100)
  • Location change:
    A14 – The Pleasures of Browsing Dictionaries will be held at Meadows Church.
  • Time change for FIRST CLASS ONLY:
    A16 – The Many Faces of Depression will meet on 9/15 at 9 – 10:30 am – (earlier than listed in the catalog). The remaining 5 class meeting times (9/22, 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20) will meet as scheduled:  11 am – 12:30 pm.
